I know I know, the holidays are technically over, but I wanted to share this quick tutorial with you. You could do this project for just about any event. This would be great for signage at your wedding for butler cards, guest book or even the menu. I usually don’t do any DIY project that cant be used at a wedding!! I’ve already shown you how I did the canvas “Paris” – but this is easier, way easier.
First of all you will need:
- Canvas from craft store (mine came from Hobby Lobby pack of two for $8.00 and 40% off coupon total of $4.80)
- Spray paint in Whatever Color you Choose – I used Metallic Silver and Peacock Blue
- Printed phrase or word on Card Stock Paper and Cut Out
- Spray adhesive or double sitck tape
Step One -
Paint the surface of your canvas the color you want to ultimately show through. I wanted my words to be Silver so I painted the canvas silver. I also did one without painting the canvas and let the white lettering show through.
Step Two -
After the paint is dry, and that shouldn’t take long with the quick drying spray paint, take your cut out letters and spray them lightly with adhesive or double stick tape. Place the letters on the canvas as you like. Don’tbe afraid to change position if needed, thats why you did a light coating of adhesive.
In a sweeping motion spray your final color over the top of the letters covering the entire canvas.
Step Four -
After the paint is dry (again spray paint dries quick) remove the cut out letters to reveal your final product.
This project cost me less than $5!! Even if you need to buy spray paint, it is still less than $10. Lots of BANG for your BUCK. It was also only about an hour of time and I immediately hung it over the fire place with Command Strips -GREAT INVENTION!! I’m going to be doing something similar to hang above my fireplace year round – I will post pics and tutorial as well.
If there is something you would like to see let me know – I love DIY projects of all shapes and sizes.
